Zakhar Berkut Ski Resort to Close in Its Current Format on March 2, 2026
Feb 23, 2026

The Zakhar Berkut ski resort will завершити operations in its current format on March 2, 2026, as preparations begin for a major infrastructure upgrade—the construction of Ukraine’s first gondola lift.

Opened in 2005 in the village of Volosianka, near Slavske, Zakhar Berkut has become one of the most popular winter destinations in the Ukrainian Carpathians over the past two decades. Since 2022, the resort has been part of OKKO Group’s portfolio. Its infrastructure includes a 24-room hotel, the “Vysokyi Verkh” restaurant located at the mountain summit, surface lifts, a network of ski slopes, and the longest two-seater chairlift in Ukraine, which has served approximately 520,000 visitors over the past five years.

The Zakhar Berkut site forms part of the first phase of the future GORO Mountain Resort, an international-standard, year-round destination currently being developed by OKKO Group. Following the end of the current season, the existing lift system will be replaced with a new one as part of a planned upgrade.

The project предусматриває construction of Ukraine’s first gondola lift, with a total length of 2.8 km. It will have a capacity of up to 2,800 passengers per hour, with an approximate travel time to the summit of 9 minutes.

The new lift will operate year-round: serving skiers and snowboarders in winter, and supporting hiking, sightseeing, and cycling activities during the warmer months.

The development is part of the broader GORO Mountain Resort project—a large-scale, all-season destination being created by OKKO Group. The closure of Zakhar Berkut in its current format has been carefully planned to extend its operation for as long as possible for its loyal visitors.

GORO representatives note that the legacy of Zakhar Berkut remains an important part of the area’s identity and is being thoughtfully integrated into the new development concept.

Volodymyr Harazd, CEO of GORO Mountain Resort:

“We see the development of mountain territories as something broader than infrastructure modernization alone. For us, it’s about shaping a new culture of recreation in the Ukrainian Carpathians—modern, safe, and competitive at the European level.

GORO Mountain Resort is a long-term investment in the region, its economy, and its tourism potential. Our goal is to create a space that works year-round for the community, businesses, and visitors—establishing a new point of attraction on Ukraine’s tourism map.”
