GORO Mountain Resort becomes strategic partner of the Ukrainian Biathlon Federation
Jul 23, 2025

The Ukrainian Biathlon Federation has announced a new strategic partnership with GORO Mountain Resort — a year-round mountain resort currently under construction in the Ukrainian Carpathians. As a result, GORO became the title sponsor of the Federation, joining the ranks of businesses supporting Ukrainian sports in staying competitive during wartime.

GORO Mountain Resort is one of the largest private infrastructure projects in the fields of tourism and sports in Ukraine, set to feature 25 hotels across its territory. With an estimated investment of over $1.5 billion, the project is being developed near Slavske (Lviv region) by the OKKO Group, in cooperation with top Austrian firms ILF Group, Doppelmayr/Garaventa Gruppe, and PKF Hospitality. The resort will include international-level ski, hospitality, and recreational infrastructure.

The partnership with the Federation is set through April 2026. The GORO logo will appear on the national biathlon team’s official apparel during both international and domestic competitions. GORO will also provide systematic support to the national team as they prepare for key events such as the World Cup and Winter Olympic Games.

“For Ukraine — a country at war — partnerships with the business sector are vital to keeping athletes training, equipped, and focused on performance,”
— said Ivan Krulko, President of the Ukrainian Biathlon Federation.
“Funding cycles, logistics, gear, and medical support — all of this becomes possible when business steps in.”

“This partnership is part of a bigger vision,” — added Volodymyr Garazd, CEO of GORO Mountain Resort. “Our goal is to build a world-class, all-season mountain resort in Ukraine that becomes a hub for the development of a modern sports ecosystem in the Lviv region. Biathlon is a sport where Ukraine has genuine breakthrough potential, and we want to help realize that.”

GORO is building an ambitious sports core:

  • 75 km of ski slopes across 342 hectares

  • 100% artificial snow coverage

  • Infrastructure for hiking, mountain biking, climbing, and more

According to Volodymyr Garazd, such resorts naturally become magnets for further investment in professional sports facilities that benefit from the resort’s resources and infrastructure.

Ukraine’s main biathlon base in the Chernihiv region was completely destroyed by russian attacks, while another facility in the Sumy region sustained significant damage. Still, Ukrainian athletes continue to train and compete internationally.

Since biathlon arenas are often located near ski resorts — to share costly and complex snowmaking infrastructure — building a center like GORO creates natural synergy.

“We aim to develop a biathlon training center with year-round trails, support infrastructure, and logistics that meet IBU (International Biathlon Union) standards,” — said Ivan Krulko. “It will support the national team, youth development, competitions, and attract sports tourism. After the war, we’ll be in a position to host international events.”

GORO’s ski runs are being designed to meet FIS (International Ski and Snowboard Federation) standards, opening the door for international competitions, including World Cup stages. The resort’s advanced 100% snowmaking system will ensure consistent winter training conditions. Slopes are suitable for all alpine skiing disciplines, enabling use by both youth sports schools and professional teams — setting a new benchmark for Ukraine’s professional sports infrastructure.
