The third forest restoration initiative took place in the Slavske community, initiated by GORO Mountain Resort with the support of forestry specialists and local authorities. As part of GORO Reforest Day 2026, 8,000 fir and sycamore maple seedlings were planted near the village of Volosyanka across an area of 2.8 hectares.
The eco-initiative brought together GORO employees, foresters from “Halsillis”, deputies and representatives of the Lviv Regional Council, members of the Slavske settlement council, as well as around 100 school students from schools within the Slavske territorial community.
“For our GORO team, this is more than just ski slopes or hotels. It is a project built on respect for the ecosystem we are becoming part of. GORO Reforest Day, now held for the third consecutive year, shows that we do not just take from nature—we give back through consistent, systemic actions, and more than we take. Our goal is to create a world-class, year-round resort that preserves the uniqueness of the Carpathians. Forest restoration today is our investment in the most valuable asset of the Carpathians—the nature that future generations will enjoy,” said Vasyl Danyliak, co-founder of GORO Mountain Resort.
The GORO Reforest Day project is implemented within the framework of a 15-year cooperation memorandum between GORO Mountain Resort and the regional forestry enterprise “Halsillis”, which предусматриває planting 1 million trees across the Carpathian region.
“Forest restoration is always a long-term process that requires a professional approach and consistency. We positively assess such initiatives when businesses choose not symbolic actions, but systematic work in cooperation with specialists,” emphasized Ivan Pidhorodetskyi, Director General of “Halsillis”.
An important component of the initiative is the active involvement of the local community and youth in preserving and restoring the Carpathian forests.
“This initiative is about responsibility to future generations. We are developing the community, infrastructure, and tourism, while also taking care of nature. Every tree planted is an investment in the future of the Slavske community,” noted Oleh Danyliak, Acting Head of the Slavske settlement council.
“It is an honor for the Lviv Regional Council to take part in tree-planting initiatives. Together with ‘Halsillis’, we consistently work to increase the volume of young forest plantations in the region. We also note that GORO Mountain Resort, as a responsible investor, implements proper environmental approaches aimed at increasing forest coverage within the Slavske community,” added Yaroslav Hasiak, Managing Director of the Lviv Regional Council.
GORO Reforest Day 2026 marked another stage in scaling up the initiative. In 2025, approximately 50,000 seedlings were planted across more than 12 hectares in eight locations in the Lviv region. In autumn, athletes from Ukraine’s national biathlon team also joined the reforestation effort, planting a symbolic alley.
GORO Mountain Resort emphasizes that the eco-initiative will continue as an annual part of the resort’s long-term sustainable development strategy and the broader Slavske tourism cluster. A fourth planting initiative is planned for this autumn, with the total reforested area set to grow further.
